Bright aromas and flavors are tasted with each sip. Added textures from fermentation with a neutral aged oak that pronounces itself beautifully. The grapes are grown on an amazing soil source, varying soils of sand, shale and gravel with heavier clays ranging from yellow to red chert.
Harvest Date:
2022
Winemaking Notes:
Lieu Dit centers on Sauvignon Blanc and more limited bottlings of Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Franc and Rose and produces around 10,000 cases annually. Each wine is intentional, approachable, and balanced. Destemmed to open-top stainless tanks for native fermentation; macerated for two-and-a-half weeks and managed with pump-overs. Pressed down to french barriques (approximately 10% of which were new.) Racked once after malolactic fermentation and again to tank for bottling. Un-fined, lightly filtered.
The Story Behind The Winery:
A partnership between two longtime friends, Eric Railsback and Justin Willett, began an incredible journey in Santa Barbara. Eric finished college in the region while Justin was beginning his winemaking career. Among a small community of young winemakers and restaurateurs in Santa Barbara that unified the common interest in wine and what could hold for future endeavors.
Trying to figure out the perfect formula resulted in numerous trips to France. They both decided to found Lieu Dit in 2011 with focus on indigenous varieties to the Loire Valley, found in Santa Barbara County. A perfect environment set in stone for growing grapes. Centering Lieu Dit on Sauvignon Blanc as well as putting a stamp on rarity by limiting bottlings of Melon de Bourgogne, Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Franc and Rose of Pinot Noir. The adventure and proclamation of each vintage shows purity, elegance, and balance.
