The 2021 Tooth And Nail Red Blend is a deliciously unconventional cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon (57%), Petite Sirah (20%), Syrah (12%) and Tempranillo (11%).

Tasting Notes:

By comparison it offers warm, inviting aromas of cherry, dried herbs, tobacco leaf and subtle oak. The palate further offers dense and meaty, showing bold flavors of currant, black plum and pomegranate with hints of tea and soy sauce. A rich, rustic finish is carried by
focused acidity and striking mineral undercurrents.

Barrel Selection:

The individual lots were aged in French oak barrels (15% new oak) for 12 months

Growing Notes:

The 2021 growing season was remarkably steady and mild. Balanced against prevailing cooler conditions that allowed for intense color development and optimal ripeness at lower sugar levels. The result was a winemaker’s dream, with the ability to dictate
perfect pick dates while achieving excellent quality. The grapes harvest over a six-week period from September 14 through November 3, 2021.

Winemaking Notes:

After destemming the clusters, Director of Winemaking Jeremy Leffert and his team further fermented the fruit in a combination of 10-ton stainless steel tanks, four-ton concrete fermenters and large oak tanks. After seven to ten days of warm extraction, the new wine presses off the skins into stainless steel tanks to finish fermentation. A maneuver furthermore designed to maintain a pure tannin profile while avoiding any uptake of phenolic astringency. Post fermentation, the individual lots were aged in French oak barrels (15% new oak) for 12 months prior to blending and bottling.

Founded by grower Rob Murray, Tooth & Nail Wine Company followed a path of true grit and determination to find success in Paso, a tough place to grow grapes and make wine. Rather than battle nature, they bottled it–fighting tooth and nail to create wines they could be proud of. Wines that embrace the elements in the pursuit of excellence. Led by winemaker Jeremy Leffert, their process accentuates the character of the product instead of obstructing it. The results are wines that are as adaptive and exciting as the journey the winery takes in crafting them.

The Tooth & Nail Squad is the brainchild of owner-winegrower Rob Murray, who worked with local design studio, Ethur Ethur, to create the renegade characters on the labels and to build the imaginary world they live in. Along the way, Jeremy executed his own creative vision for the wine inside the bottle.
