About 2014 Stolpman Angeli Syrah Ballard Canyon:
Angeli is Stolpman’s longest lived wine, built to age decades. 2014 Stolpman Angeli Syrah will blossom in the cellar. It’s delicate and pretty while powerful and lasting. Wine made in honor of Tom Stolpman’s wife, Marilyn, and her Italian heritage.
Tasting Notes:
Ripe richness and savory liveliness. Tight rope of fresh red fruit and deep ripe yumminess re palpable upon release. No need to wait for tannins to soften or the mid-palate to flesh out.
Growing Notes:
The 2014 Stolpman Angeli density and ripe seductiveness shows off the warm, opulent growing season. The vineyard harvested the Angeli ridgeline with soft skins and piercingly sweet juice. Two thirds of clusters were intact as they filled the concrete tanks.
Harvest Dates: August 20, 2014
Winemaking Notes:
Richer and deeper than the higher toned Angeli of the past few years. 100% Syrah from block 5 ridgeline.
Vinification: 65% whole cluster fermented in open top unsealed concrete tanks. Free fun only, no press wine. Fermentations: 21 days. Cooperages and Elevage: 265L ‘cigars’ and 500L puncheons, 10% new.
About The Winery:
In the late 1930s, teenage cattle rancher Anchor Johnson and his buddies landed their rickety plane down the straight chute where Roussanne is now planted. The young men would park the plane under the oak tree at the end of the dirt strip. Roussanne rows now run lengthwise along the old runway, creating the inspiration for the lanes on the Stolpman L’Avion label.
Over 20 years ago, Stolpman Vineyards Founding Partner, Tom Stolpman, discovered what he believe to be one of the greatest viticultural sites on earth. Hidden in the hills of California’s Central Coast, on a rare Limestone outcropping & unobstructed from the Pacific Ocean wind, this unique land is naturally suited to grow Syrah and Roussanne grapes. The winery is committed to preserving this natural environment for their vines through conscious farming, dry farming, & sustainable employment. In the winery, they prefer native fermentation & minimal manipulation.
Dedicated to sensible farming & winemaking, The Stolpman Team believes that they can create vibrant, site-specific wines, with a focus unique to Ballard Canyon AVA, California.
